TEACHERS MAKING A DIFFERENCE ONLINE   Print

Hits : 167
Saturday 27 March 2010, 10:00am - 5:00pm

The Internet has become a standard medium for children to socialise, study, play games, and just carry on with their life. Children are developing IT skills from a very early age and they often surpass their parents and teachers in technical know-how.
However, children also need to learn to behave properly and responsible online. Not only are they exposed to all sorts of risks and dangers while online (cyber-bullying, meeting strangers, stalking, virus infection) against which they need to be protected and kept safe. They also need to learn to conduct themselves with decency and propriety while online. Although parents are the main educators of their children, it is clear that teachers also play a major role in the formation of character and development of values in their pupils, both for their off-line and their online activities.

This seminar will explore the role that teachers and educators should play in passing on values of safety and responsible behaviour when they go online: surfing the web, chatting, posting personal stuff on social networks, gaming, etc.

It is intended as a very positive seminar, with lots of practical suggestions and ideas to help teachers contribute effectively to their pupils’ online experience.
