The Internet has become a standard medium for children to socialise, study, play games, and just carry on with their life. Children are developing IT skills from a very early age and they often surpass their parents and teachers in technical know-how.

However, children also need to learn to behave properly and responsibly online. They are exposed to all sorts of risks and dangers (cyber-bullying, meeting strangers, stalking, virus infection) against which they need to be protected and kept safe.  And they need to learn to conduct themselves with decency and propriety. Although parents are the main educators of their children, it is clear that teachers also play a major role in the development of values in their pupils and in the formation of their character, which apply as much to their online world.
