The Nursing Now conference is one of the many professional conferences organised by the Lismullin Institute.
For the past ten years this conference has helped nurses caring for the elderly to improve their professional standards and gain a deeper grasp of the ethical issues that can arise. Underlying the conference is the Christian perspective of the dignity of the human person. See past Nursing Now papers here |

Stroke Care in Nursing Homes The annual Nursing Now conference focuses on the challenges - professional and ethical – in providing high quality care to the elderly in residential care settings. The majority of stroke patients in Nursing Homes are older, have more severe disability and have limited access to specialist services. Functional and cognitive problems include communication difficulties, swallowing difficulties, poor mobility, cognitive impairment and depression. This conference will highlight key components of care and suggest ways in which nurses can help ameliorate the impact of stoke for residents and their families.
